Short, straight answers — the essentials, one answer for every tool, and the privacy and policy questions. These are the same answers the tool pages and the legal pages give, under one roof.
For the long version, the user guide documents every tool — what it does, what to set, and what to check.
The essentials
The questions every visitor starts with.
Is every tool really free?
Yes. All 34 calculators on MathTools are 100% free to use. There are no premium tiers, no hidden fees, and no daily usage limits. You can use the site indefinitely without ever paying.
How do you make money if it is free?
MathTools is currently a self-funded project by Quirento Ecommerce and OrbitalBee. We do not rely on ads or selling user data. In the future, we may introduce optional premium features, but the core calculators will remain free.
Do I need an account?
No. You can use every tool without creating an account. However, creating a free account allows you to save your calculation history and sync it across your devices.
What happens to my calculations?
Guest calculations run 100% locally in your browser and are lost when you reload the page. If you create an account, your recent calculations are securely saved to your profile so you can access them later.
Is there a mobile app?
We do not have a native iOS or Android app. However, MathTools is fully responsive and works flawlessly in any mobile web browser. You can also add it to your home screen for quick access.
Is there a watermark or a catch?
No watermarks, no forced sign-ups, and no locked answers. We built MathTools to be a fast, ad-free, privacy-first utility.
Do I need to install anything?
No. MathTools is a fully web-based application. It runs entirely in your browser on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Can I use the results commercially?
Yes. You are free to use the results, graphs, and data generated by MathTools for personal, educational, or commercial purposes.
Tools — quick answers
One quick answer for each tool category; the full set waits at the bottom of every tool page.
Arithmetic & Algebra
Why does 50 + 10% give 50.1 instead of 55?
The % key simply divides the current number by 100. To add 10% to 50, you must do 50 + (50 × 0.10) = 55. For percentage increases, use the dedicated Percentage Change calculator.
Why do fractions need a common denominator?
Because you can only add or subtract parts of the same size. The Fraction Calculator finds the common denominator automatically.
Can the calculators handle decimals and negative numbers?
Yes. Unless a specific tool (like the Factorial calculator) requires whole integers, all tools accept decimals, fractions, and negative numbers.
What is the difference between Mean, Median, and Mode?
The Mean is the average of all numbers. The Median is the middle number when sorted. The Mode is the most frequently occurring number. The Average Calculator finds all three at once.
Geometry
Why must triangle sides satisfy the Triangle Inequality Theorem?
Because if one side is longer than the sum of the other two sides, they cannot physically reach each other to form a closed shape.
Does the Pythagorean theorem work for all triangles?
No. It only works for right-angled triangles. For other triangles, you must use the Law of Cosines.
Can I calculate the volume of 3D shapes like spheres or cylinders?
No. Currently, MathTools focuses entirely on 2D geometry (area, perimeter, angles). We do not have 3D volume calculators at this time.
Advanced & Engineering
Can I solve second-order ODEs?
Currently, the ODE Solver focuses on first-order differential equations using the Runge-Kutta (RK4) method.
What is the difference between DEG, RAD, and GRAD?
They are units for measuring angles. DEG uses degrees (360 in a circle), RAD uses radians (2π in a circle), and GRAD uses gradians (400 in a circle).
How accurate are the numerical solvers (Limits, ODEs)?
They use standard numerical methods (like RK4 for ODEs and approach tables for limits). While highly accurate for most use cases, they are approximations and should not replace rigorous symbolic proofs for critical engineering decisions.
Privacy
What is stored and for how long — the full policy is on the Privacy Policy page.
How long are my calculations kept?
If you are a guest, calculations are kept in your browser's memory and are deleted when you close or reload the tab. If you have an account, up to 100 recent calculations are kept in our database.
Who can see my calculations?
Only you. We do not inspect, sell, or share your calculation history with any third parties.
Are my calculations sent to your servers?
For guests, no. All math runs locally in your browser using JavaScript. For logged-in users, recent history is sent to our servers via encrypted connection (HTTPS) so it can sync across your devices.
Do you use cookies or trackers?
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We use a single, secure, HTTP-only cookie if you log in to keep you authenticated.
Do you sell my email address if I sign up?
Absolutely not. We will never sell, rent, or share your email address. We only use it for account authentication.
Is my data used to train AI models?
No. We do not use your calculation inputs or results to train any artificial intelligence models.
Can I request deletion of my account and data?
Yes. You can delete your account at any time from your Account Settings page. Once deleted, all your saved data and history will be permanently removed from our database.
Security
Encryption, retention, and account protections — the full picture is on the Security page.
Is my data encrypted when sent to your servers?
Yes. All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using standard HTTPS/TLS protocols.
How are passwords protected?
Passwords are hashed and salted using bcrypt before being stored. We never store plain-text passwords.
Can anyone else access my account?
Sessions are managed using secure, HTTP-only JWT (JSON Web Tokens) cookies, which protect against Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks.
What should I do if I forget my password?
Currently, you will need to contact support to reset your password. We are working on an automated password reset feature.
Do you store my card details?
We do not process payments, so we never ask for or store credit card details.
How do I report a vulnerability?
If you discover a security issue, please contact us immediately at support@maths.tools. We take all reports seriously and will investigate promptly.
Terms
The short version of the rules; the Terms page carries the full text.
What am I allowed to process?
You can use MathTools for personal, educational, or commercial calculations. You may not use the site to attack our servers, scrape data aggressively, or attempt to bypass security.
Can I scrape the website or use an API?
We do not currently offer a public API. Automated scraping that places a heavy load on our servers is strictly prohibited and may result in an IP ban.
Do you claim ownership of my results?
No. You retain full ownership of the numbers you input and the results you generate.
Are the calculators guaranteed to be 100% accurate?
While we rigorously test every calculator against academic standards, math tools can occasionally produce unexpected results due to edge cases or floating-point precision. Always verify critical numbers before relying on them.
How is the free service funded?
MathTools is currently self-funded by the engineering team at Quirento Ecommerce and OrbitalBee.
Can an account be suspended?
Yes, if we detect abuse of our servers, automated scraping, or malicious activity that violates our Terms of Use.
What happens if the website goes down?
We strive for 99.9% uptime. If the site is down, it is likely due to scheduled maintenance or a hosting provider outage. We will restore service as quickly as possible.
Are there any subscriptions?
No. There are no subscriptions, premium tiers, or paywalls.
